A PC MLA Speaks Her Mind on Public Education

Genia Leskiw, the Progressive Conservative MLA for Bonnyville Cold Lake has written a very interesting piece on her website.  It takes direct aim at the Wildrose Alliance Education Policy.  You can form you own opinions about the Wildrose policy

I love the political spunk and personal exercise of free speech that Genia represents in this posting.  MLAs need to speak out more often like this and on critical issues of the day.  They also need to be able to change their minds based on new knowledge and better information from time to time without being accused of flip flopping.

Tip of the Hat to Daveberta for the link and good for you Genia.  You make me proud to know you.

  1. I would like to thank the MLA's reasonable comments about education, teachers, and students' standardized test scores. Based on my observations of one fellow teacher, she taught a class of grade-six students who performed poorly on the standardized tests in Ontario. The next year, she taught another class of grade-six students who performed very well on the tests. She taught the same way except for some minor changes to meet the needs of her students. I'm biased, but I think she is a great teacher. Based on the standardized tests, would the public think of her as a good or bad teacher? With 25 students in her classroom, it is possible to get a great variance from one year to the next. It takes a few students to change the results in a classroom.

  2. It appears that Genia's comments have ruffled the feathers of onetime MLA and now wild roser Isley. He went so far as to email Genia and demand a phone call to explain why she was promoting half truths and lies. He even acused her of bordering on slander. Ouch, must have cut too close to the quick!

  3. I'm sure Speaker Kowalski will move swiftly to reprimand Leskiw for posting such a partisan document on her MLA website... right?
