And did you grow up with what you want or don't want as being the ultimate moral imperative in your life? Because it doesn't really matter what you want, does it? What matters is the law and morality. And the law, as set out in the Canada Supreme Court last May, is that: (1) Omar Khadr's Charter rights were seriously violated at Guantanamo; (2) Canadian Foreign Affairs and CSIS officials were "complicit" in those violations; and (3) contrary to what Stephen Harper claims, Canada "owes no deference" to the U.S. regarding Omar Khadr. Now we have three choices: we can respect the law and pressure our leaders to adhere to it; we can lobby to change the law; we can rebel against the law, and perhaps end up on the wrong side of the law ourselves.
Marnie Tunay
http://fakirscanada.spaces.live.com/default.aspx
P.S. Again it demonstrates the absence of leadership, conscience, support for human dignity and basic respect of the Conservative government for a jailed Canadian child. Not to put too fine a point on it, I hope that Khadr's lawyers can rein in the psychiatrists and psychologists -- he has spent long enough being experimented upon by people who don't really know what they're doing, and that should come to an end.skdadlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10395908653129465704noreply@blogger.com
