Hardly anything worth changing for!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31415271.post-27324673599552578312008-08-28T21:25:00.000-06:002008-08-28T21:25:00.000-06:00On China...I'm disappointed that Harper is so scar...On China...

I'm disappointed that Harper is so scared of China. I think that if the Olympics have proven anything, it's that China CAN and WILL participate on the global stage, regardless of what you, or me, or Steve thinks of it.

China is not a new or naive country, and if one thing is for sure, in my experience, China knows China way better than we know ourselves. Indeed, in my experience, Chinese people in China know exactly what it means to be Chinese.

I will blog about this soon, but the basic meaning is that China is what it is, and in the short term, it is not going to change, just for us. China is asserting itself globally now. Until now, China hasn't demanded intellectual, political, economic and military space globally, but now it will.

The truth is, we are the ones who are going to have to change for China.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31415271.post-30529511198699211852008-08-28T21:16:00.001-06:002008-08-28T21:16:00.001-06:00Ken,I've got Obama envy. I can't believe Harper is wiggling around like this, scaring people away from politics, when not so far away, on the same continent, there's a guy who can give so much hope to citizens (even if reality will limit the actual outcome of his vision).

Is it the cold weather in Canada that limits us to whiney, visionless politicians? Canadians have cabin fever, so all they can do is bicker? Seems less than likely. What's wrong with our political system? If we can't have good policy, can't we at least have a bit of hope?

I guess I shouldn't have watched Obama's speech today...Obama envy...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31415271.post-35582480811990180882008-08-28T21:16:00.000-06:002008-08-28T21:16:00.000-06:00It's not the hidden agenda so much as the visible ...It's not the hidden agenda so much as the visible one I'm afraid of with Harper and the conservatives.

Bill C-484, Bill C-10, Bill C-61 are just the start.

Cuts to the CFIA, cancelling Navy ship purchases, fighting against InSite, fighting against the will of the farmers with the CWB, firing civil servants who point out their errors, it makes me sick to my stomach -- possibly literally (Thanks, Tony!)

Yeah, I've seen the conservatives work for the last two years, and for voters who are paying attention to what they do as opposed to just what they say? It's time for this "conservative" government to go.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31415271.post-19048533721423604442008-08-28T17:40:00.000-06:002008-08-28T17:40:00.000-06:00eric - not attending the CHINESE Olympics is the i...eric - not attending the CHINESE Olympics is the issue. The issue is not about attending just any Olympics. You Cons sure like to niggle at the edges of things when there are real issues to deal with.

Mr. Harper clearly has a problem with China and that may be justified. I do too, especially on human rights.

These kinds of issues and problems are not solved by avoiding them or by pettiness like not attending the Chinese Olympic Opening Ceremonies. Harper did not even explain why he was not going.

The Harper Cons have had secret agendas all along. Look at Income Trusts..secret agenda and he broke his word.

Look at his passing of a law to set Fixed Elections - not going to happen because Harper is intent on calling an nunnecessary election now. secret agenda and he breaks his own law.

That kind of taking abuse of power by a Prime Minister was not supposed to happen anymore according to Harper. He does it anyway. Secret agenda and he breaks his word.

Harper was supposed to bring integrity back to politics by his is rigging and politicizing the Supreme Court selection process. Another secret agenda and an abuse of power.

He promised open and accountable government but he has not proclaimed his so-called Accountability Act for over two years. He enables and encourages backroom deals still go on. Another secret agenda and he breaks his word.

I could go on but you get my point. Harper cannot be trusted to keep his word and he can't be trusted to be open about his political ambitions and political intentions either. HIS RECORD MAKES THAT OBVIOUS.kenchapmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11384045981190810115noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31415271.post-17975218879463907342008-08-28T08:24:00.000-06:002008-08-28T08:24:00.000-06:00No problem John. When so many are disenfranchised under the present system, how can 'real change' take place?

Unfortunately, what our country has had in place since confederation, is 'different sides of a similar coin', with respect to Liberal and Conservative governments. Nothing substantive ever really changes...

The above two parties are 'status quo'. When in government, they are not going to bring in the legislation that is needed, which will have the immediate effect of weakening their position and power.

So how does real change come about, when voting for it doesn't do the trick?John Princehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05745039414992084651noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31415271.post-26719589785263174162008-08-27T19:03:00.000-06:002008-08-27T19:03:00.000-06:00Not attending the Olympics - so I guess you think ...Not attending the Olympics - so I guess you think Chretien was wrong for not attending other Olympic ceremonies.

You are right that Dion is not a leader but that does not give him the right to block important policies such as crime legislation.

The liberal strategy that there is a secret agenda will not work this time around as Cdns have seen the CPC for other 2 years providing strong government.

I like how you can read Harper's mind - you should set up your own TV show.

A Conservative minority win will bankrupt the liberal party, which has to borrow money (secured by the money they receive from votes) to spend the maximum allowed under election laws. The liberals will then need to have a costly leadership race. Sorry Ken, but your party will soon enough be toast (as in bankrupt).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
