Wasn't Morton oposed to SSM before the Bill passed in the Commons?

His Private Members Bill 208 does open up the SSM issue as far as marriage commissioners and schools are concerned. Religious organizations are exempt as private organzations which is fine by me. Public institutions should not be exempt and allowed to discriminate on matters of human rights.

True Morton accepts SSM is federal jurisdicton so why not just drop it - Bill 208 opens up the issues of what kind of society we want Alberta to be. That issue is now the settled law of the land. Move on!

The freedom of speech framing of the issue is a smoke screen to cover the real motive behind Bill 208 which is trying to institutionalize discrimination.

I apologize if my "thinking" joke/comment was perceived as arrogant and condescending. I meant it as humour only. Hancock is a wonk like me. We wonks sure don't have a strangle hold on "enlightenment" and we tend to be analytical before emotional. But we still have a sense of humour.

My point is Hancock has his supporters but they are not found in the populist model of politics. He is more of a governance guy. It is no secret that is not where the majority of people see their citizenship or what drives them to exercise their democratic rights.

The blogosphere is so cryptic and cynical, it is hard to convey humour. It tends to get interpreted through the cynical, cryptic lens of this medium. As a result it can get interpreted as "arrogant and condescending." Too bad, not my intent but I can see how that interpretaton can happen.

In closing I appreciate your good wishes as a fellow Albertan. While we likely disagree on lots of things, but at least we are not redundant. ;-}Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31415271.post-80080861186791535382006-11-25T11:44:00.000-07:002006-11-25T11:44:00.000-07:00Sean - I'd like to meet with you but the next week...Sean - I'd like to meet with you but the next week or so is going to be extremely busy, especially if the candidate I'm supportin makes the top 3.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31415271.post-43839591822397356602006-11-25T11:33:00.000-07:002006-11-25T11:33:00.000-07:00Morton has not stated he would reopen same sex mar...Morton has not stated he would reopen same sex marriage - that is the federal jurisdiction. Nice lie though.

The Alberta Agenda has some great ideas in it. An Alberta Pension Plan would be great for young Albertans.

A vote for Hancock is a vote for the establishment.

If Hancock does not make the top 3, it will clearly demonstrate that Alberta is not ready for a radical left wing candidate. I truly hope this is the case.

Stating that every "thinking" men and women vote for Hancock is simply funny. It's arrogant and very condescending.

Anyway, good luck today Ken. I really respect the passion you have for making Alberta a better place (...just disagree with you on how to do it).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
