After all, China just started work in it's first oil shale project in Heilongjiang Province. Hmm...sister province...curiouser and curiouser.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31415271.post-27567332499003243272008-08-21T09:04:00.000-06:002008-08-21T09:04:00.000-06:00Besides potential for a nice game of in-flight bri...Besides potential for a nice game of in-flight bridge, I'm trying to figure out why Bill Gates would show up at the oil sands.

Here are two guys who have dedicated their fortunes to improving life in the poorest parts of the world (I'm I'm not mistaken, Mr. Buffett committed his estate to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation?).

These guys are looking to eradicate AIDS, build libraries in places where people couldn't read before, build sanitation facilities, increasing agricultural productivity in Africa. Heck, they're trying to eliminate smoking (besides fossil oil, the world's other worst addiction).

How could they be up in Fort McMurray doing anything other than looking at how bad it is up there? I'd love to believe that they are there in the interests of American energy security, but come on, oil sands will cover a lot of that that for a short time, or a bit of it for a few years more than that. There are waaaay better investment opportunities for energy security in the US than oil sands.

I think if either of them dumps cash into the oil sands, I'd lose quite a lot of respect for them.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
