If no other candidate does something similar or hear announcements that other candidates are doing this it only feels like a publicity stunt and no more. Alberta Greens and Alberta Party had no candidate to run against Blakeman and Alberta Party Leader Greg Clark stated his party would not run against Blakeman.

Second concern is that this looks rushed without any real thought of how it would work if a multi-party candidate wins their riding. Which party policies do they endorse? Would they be need to pull a party line?

I like other progressives would like to see more details on how this cooperation would work. If this could be done as an open transparent process would be great. I hope what Blakeman has started can continue into stronger opposition and hopefully better government.Robert Leddyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04423387496418633411noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31415271.post-32998506113655369722015-01-29T01:46:42.581-07:002015-01-29T01:46:42.581-07:00canada should be conqueredcanada should be conqueredAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31415271.post-68389300661339148872015-01-20T21:05:28.368-07:002015-01-20T21:05:28.368-07:00Early election law be damned the government in my ...Early election law be damned the government in my opinion lacks a mandate under Jim Prentice, the oil prices and potential budget shortfall presents a condition that requires significant different management and governing approach.

If the Opposition will allow the PC to proceed with a major turn of course without crying " YOU HAVE NO RIGHT MR PREMIER ".

April 2015 Election seems fair.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31415271.post-90737153261471368492015-01-19T23:59:55.964-07:002015-01-19T23:59:55.964-07:00The only reason Prentice would call an election ri...The only reason Prentice would call an election right now is because he knows he would win it. I would be very curious to see in a few months, if oil currently stays low, and he is forced to break open collective agreements, cut wages, and force layoffs (while the oil companies do the same) if he would be so keen to call an election. My question is this: Alberta needs a true left wing alternative to the Tories. With the Wild Rose Fringe Party rendered impotent, why don't the three left wing parties (Liberals, NDP, Alberta Party) be like the Conservatives and unite into one Super-party, effectively turning Alberta into a two-party province, thereby giving Albertans a viable, left wing alternative to the PCs? The strategic -voting of the last election shows that Albertan simply don't want to waste their votes on the NDP, Liberals, and the Alberta Party. I fear for the next election (regardless of when it will be), they just won't show up, and we'll be back to the same narrative we've had for the past 40+ years. I would love nothing more to be wrong about this, but I haven't been wrong for the last 20 I've lived here... Sounds like the Alberta party is VERY liberal

One of the questions was "I believe that all children should have the opportunity to pursue their interests and receive an excellent education in Alberta's public schools, regardless of the income level of their parents. Private schools should receive little or no taxpayer funding."

This statement is completely and totally a violation of my freedom. If this were to happen, I should also be able to stop paying school taxes entirely, because my kids are seeing no benefit from those taxes.

With home schooling, we are essentially a *private* school. We are funded, and we should be. We pay taxes to the school system, just like anyone else; both municpal and provincial taxes. I'm okay with this view, if my taxes towards the school system are completely removed.

The private sector, and private homes, should receive *equal* funding. The kids going to those schools are still Albertans, and their parents still pay taxes. And that is currently what happens. Our school board receives the exact same amount of money as the Athabasca school board would for each of our children. We then receive a portion to pay for some of the schooling supplies like textbooks, just as anyone else would. I would be very upset if that were not the case.

This mentality is a VERY EXTREME Liberal mentality, and it's completely wrong.

Yeah, I despise that liberal mentality, of stealing my money, and giving it all back to someone else, when I do not benefit at all (and never will). How dare someone try and remove a benefit that I pay taxes for. Like HOLY CRAP. -1 for Alberta Party.

The same thing happened in regard to child support federally. The Liberals wanted to fund day care, but not give anything to stay at home moms. How dare they take taxes from us then!

Trenton D. These laws that have a reverse onus, deeming unions guilty unless they can prove their innocence. These laws on their face make it illegal for two employees to resign or retire. These laws are the most regressive pieces of legislation ever passed in our County. I do not think this is an exaggeration. Certainly I cannot recall any time when the courts have had to intervene and prevent the government from implementing bills passed in the legislature. Mr. Hancock was responsible for rushing these Bills through and using closure to achieve them. He now saying he will not reconsider this.

Mr. Hancock is wise, and I have no doubt he will run the Province professionally, with a steady hand and a mature respect for caucus and Cabinet. I have no idea if he will ensure the business of the government is aligned with the PC part agenda as outlined in the Throne Speech. That speech made no mention of regressive labour legislation he insists on pursuing.

To suggest that any Premier insisting on Bills 45 and 46 could be called “Mr. Progressive” is risible. There is no double-edged sword. Mr. Hancock is a good man and he is coming to the aide of his party. It is a party that he clearly loves and respects. But he has chosen to abandon his principals in order to try and save that party.

Sadly, such is politics, and such is life.

- David Harrigan
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31415271.post-79077205405953221352014-01-19T14:22:24.056-07:002014-01-19T14:22:24.056-07:00Neil Young makes even less sense than opponents of...Neil Young makes even less sense than opponents of Bill 44.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31415271.post-44991130572741634612013-06-19T20:16:44.634-06:002013-06-19T20:16:44.634-06:00Interesting article Ken and I agree with most of w...Interesting article Ken and I agree with most of what you have to say. I just don't see our gov't making the significant investments needed. Sometimes, I think the PC party is trying to repeat a Ralph Klein style of government but without the rationale behind the cuts. The report notes that the world is searching for cleaner energy and urges Alberta to get in synch with that rather than being left behind peddling a product the world has moved beyond.

I am still working my way through the report but I am finding it insightful and refreshing. It contains a lot of good ideas, for those whose brain does not overheat at the thought of a more sustainable revenue regime. Most important is its insistence that Alberta's future prosperity will come with engaging as confident partner on the world stage, not a parochial oil-hawker.Dave Poultonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31415271.post-91192345470621150372011-05-23T14:04:47.851-06:002011-05-23T14:04:47.851-06:00Hi Ken,
