Do Conservatives Care About the Youth Vote?

I received an interesting news release today with the headline “Do Conservatives Care About Youth Votes in Edmonton?” It was from a group of young Edmontonians who call themselves “interVivos” who are all about inspiring, informing and mentoring young Edmontonians who want to become leaders in the community. They are hosting a youth forum tomorrow on the Federal Election for all parties to connect with engaged and informed youth in Edmonton.

The Conservatives have been serious no-shows this election. They ducked out of the Albertans for the Arts Rally last Wednesday in Edmonton. The Conservatives did not show up at a Human Rights forum recently. Will they care about youth or fail to show up this time too.

The event is tomorrow, October 7th and open to the public at Ching’s Asian Kitchen and Dim Bar, 10154 – 100 Street in Edmonton.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the Candidates spear from 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

Sorry Ken but candidates cannot be everywhere at once.

It is shameful and quite frankly stupid to think that Conservatives don't care about the youth. I guess your tag line will be that they are anti-children. And liberals are pro-children. What absolute silliness and laziness in thinking.

    Hi anonymous,

    The evidence indicates otherwise.

    Check out this story: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/manitoba/story/2008/09/30/no-fly-universities.html

About 40 to 50 youth attended the forum last night.

    These candidates were there:

    Della Drury (New Democractic Party)
    Aden Murphy (Green Party)
    Stephanie Laskoski (Liberal Party)
    Brent Rathberger(Conservative Party)

Many questions focused on the economy, there were questions about healthcare and even a question about favourite alcoholic beverage!

Don Iveson, City of Edmonton councilor, asked a question about the transfer of funds from the Federal Government to municipalities.

    Overall, a good event.

Oh, Rahim Jaffer dropped by after the forum was done and mixed a bit with the crowd.

  4. Great to see the Conservatives finally agree to come out of their political bubble and show up at this youth forum.

The Cons have been ducking community based and issues based election event events for far too long. Not a good signal for demonstrating openness and accountability if you have to hide from voters.

I was particularly pleased to see Brent Rathberger show up for the Conservatives. He is a quality candidate running in St. Albert.
