Here it is – the Dion “Green Shift” initiative that was announced today. This website is going to be one that I will book mark and visit often.
I, along with many other Canadians who are beginning to look seriously at new ways to address the challenge of climate change, need to get engaged and stay on top if this new policy initiative.
This is a great start and I see I have lots of reading and reflecting to do. Let’s see just how far, fast and deep this cultural change can happen. It is time we started pulling for the planet – each and every one of us.
This was the worst move in political history. The liberals had the conservatives on the ropes for a couple weeks but now all the attention is Dion's massive carbon tax grab.
ReplyDeleteRemember 6 months ago when Dion said a carbon was a dumb policy idea.
Canadians will have to pay more for all goods - remember that it takes energy to ship goods to the grocery store.
Shame on Dion for trying to steal our tax dollars in his little environmental pursuit.
Bring on the election and let's put this green tax grabbing geek out of his misery.
Thoughtful comments, Ken. I think Dion is a little brighter than many, including the commenter above, give him credit for. He's taken a regular pounding over the past year and a half for all his creative ways of avoiding voting the government down. Over the past couple of months, with the polling numbers beginning to shift, his wisdom is becoming apparent.
ReplyDeleteThis policy has the making of the same sort of situation. He'll take all kinds of abuse, but in the end, he's betting that voters are sophisticated enough to follow a line of thinking several steps long. The Frank Luntz/Tom Flanagan types don't give us so much credit, but Dion does. I hope his hunch it right.
Climate change is a farce and cap and trade systems are designed to be a worldwide socialist redistribution system. A convenient truth.
ReplyDeleteYou're right Ken, it would be wise to go often to the website and peruse for inconsistencies. "A family with 2 children and a combined income of $20,000 will save $2500." Is this Party on Mars? That family already pays no income tax so how will they benefit from the shift to lower income taxes? ..particularly when they will be paying more for all carbon based products such as heating, gas, etc. "By lowering other taxes." Did they not oppose lowering the GST?
ReplyDeleteDion's massive tax grab would cripple the economy and disproportionately hurt Alberta and other oil producing provinces. This is National Energy II. To protect my economic interests, I donated $1100 to the Conservative Party the day Dion announced the carbon tax would be his platform. I also plan on donating to swing ridings in other provinces.
