Bernier to Harper: "Look who I have as my 'official girlfriend' Stephen. What do you mean I can't keep her?"
Good to see that Prime Minister Harper finally called the public inquiry into the Schreiber/Mulroney Affair. Eight months since he promised...justice delayed is justice denied Mr. Prime Minister.
The proposed new Canadian Copyright Law genuflects to the American pressures and could make Canada akin to China when it comes to controlling the Internet. I am a big fan of Jim Prentice but can’t support him on this one.
Have you even read the copyright legislation? Most IP lawyers are commending the government for updating a piece of legislation that should have been done a long time ago. The liberals did not have the backbone to do it - Prentice took the initative and did a tremendous job.
ReplyDeleteWhy not explain in detail the problems you have with the legislation rather than making substanceless comments. Your argument: it is not good because it will make Canada like China. Wow, what a brilliant analysis of this complicated area of the law. Sheesh.
Anon...go to http://www.michaelgeist.ca/
ReplyDeleteand have a look at what a law prof thinks of the legilsation.
Of course IP lawyers love this...its how they make money. More silly laws the better.
"Intellectual Property" is nonsense anyway...
As for PP...he's my MP but he's from Calgary (moved to Ottawa about 2 months before running...).Do you guys want him back?
Michael Geist is a blowhard and wants publicity so much he'll say about anything. He is certainly no heavyweight in the area of IP.
ReplyDeleteIndusty, of course, is happy as well.
I am hoping you don't agree with idiot comments like "oh music downloaders are going to pay massive fines." Only morons like the current liberals would make such uneducated comments.
I totally agree with Ken Chapman that Pierre Poilievre is a classy guy. One of the best MP's in Canada - we need more like him.

ReplyDeleteAnon @ 12:34 - read the Ottawa Citizen today on Mr. Poilievre. It is very revealing.

Ken, your party has done absolutely nothing for aboriginals for decades. You have no solid ground to criticize anyone.
ReplyDeleteThe real hero here is Pierre Poilievre for saying what everyone I talk to was thinking. At least someone stands up for the rest of Canada. Common sense.
ReplyDeleteI agree. We need more people like Poilievre.
ReplyDeleteWatch Poilievre get appointed to cabinet as a Secretary of State.
ReplyDeleteI've got to disagree on the China comment here...outside of some politically or "morally" sensitive content, such as www.oxfam.org.hk (not sure why that site is blocked), I can download anything and everything I want in China, and nobody will flinch. It is much easier for me to download copyrighted materials in China, and the quality is also not bad.
ReplyDeleteWhile China is highly regulated on the books, in reality it is quite a free country unless you personally get on the wrong side of somebody in power.
So now I just have to fear that when I return to Canada, my laptop might be subject to search and seizure...that's a little scary.
Anon - Yes I can see Poilievre as Secretary of State - but only in George Bush's Cabinet.
